The Hateful Eight is another western directed by Quentin Tarantino. This film blends mystery and violence into a western, and it works very well. Set after a few years of the American Civil War, the film, as said in the name, follows eight strangers who soon became trapped in the same cabin all together

The characters you are first introduced to are John Ruth and Daisy Domergue. John is a bounty hunter, and Daisy is his bounty. John is trying to get his bounty, but then runs into the other six characters. John ends up having to go to this cabin called “Minnie’s Haberdashery” because of an oncoming blizzard.

Rather than it being a normal western, it is more focused on the characters and the mystery behind the plot of the movie. This movie is very dialogue-heavy, and most of the action is at the very end, so it's not a very action-packed movie. However, the mystery aspect of it keeps the film very entertaining.

Django Unchained vs The Hateful Eight

These movies are both westerns; they have many similarities, but are still very different standalone films.

Django Unchained is more of a traditional revenge western film, following the hero to save his love, and his friend helps him. Throughout the journey of Django, you see him change and turn into a hero by gaining confidence and his anger toward slavers. The setting of Django also takes place during fall, winter, and spring. It's much more diverse than Hateful Eight.

The Hateful Eight is meant to be a one-set film; it makes the whole plot of the movie work because of the mystery aspect. Instead of having one hero, the film gives you eight hateful characters. Not all the characters in the story are really good people. Every character is corrupt in some way, so it is hard to feel sympathy for what happens in the movie. This movie also takes a shift from having a revenge theme. As seen many times before in the movies, revenge as a theme is very common. In this, the theme is darker and mysterious.
